Multiple iexplore processes is normal - if you have only a single IE window
open with multiple tabs then 8 processes would probably be 7 tabs; 1 process
for the container, 1 for each tab.
Before you start killing processes without understanding LCIE
(
http://blogs.msdn.com/ie/archive/2008/03/11/ie8-and-loosely-coupled-ie-lcie.aspx),
you would do well to try to diagnose the source of your problem.
First up, run IE in no-add ons mode (one way to do this is Start > Run and
type iexplore -extoff ). Does it still happen? If not, then you have an
incompatible add-on being loaded and run by IE.
Have you tried resetting IE from the Advanced tab in Tools > Options? This
will reset IE to it's default installation settings and will remove any
add-ons or other objects that it loads. Does it still happen?
If you still have problems even with a reset, then I would suspect that your
use of a registry cleaner may have broken the IE install. Never, ever, use a
registry cleaner tool - more often than not they remove essential registry
entries, especially if you use an older cleaner application that doesn't
know about the changes to the registry in a newer version of an application
(such as IE in this case). Even MS removed their RegCleaner application
years ago, it caused way too many problems.
