ehrecvr.exe error message after installing SP3

Hi,

I own a Freecom Hybrid DVB-T USB Stick which used to work fine (Was
able to see TV), unfortunately since I installed SP3 for Windows XP I
always get following annoying message on startup when plugging in the
DVB-T USB Stick:

An unhandled win32 exception occured in ehrecvr.exe

The message keeps popping up every 5 seconds, until I disconnect the
USB Stick.

When I check the event viewer following error message is generated by
the Media Center Receiver service:

TV Tuner Malfunction. (0x80040265) TridVid Tv Tuner

I found comments of people who experienced the same problem, but
nowhere a decent solution... apperently one or more KB's is causing
problems:

It seems that some fixes which were part of "Update Rollup 2 for
Windows XP Media Center Edition 2005 RU2" are reverted when you install
service pack 3:

I tried all different kind of things, but nothing seems to work. :(

Maybe you guys can give me a hand.

Thanks in advance!

Have you tried uninstalling / reinstalling the tv stick ?

Is the device supported in SP3?

Was the device connected to the computer when you installed SP3 *and then
all of the August 2010 updates*?

Why did you wait until WinXP SP2 was no longer supported before you
installed SP3?

What anti-virus application or security suite is installed and is your
subscription current? What anti-spyware applications (other than Defender)?
What third-party firewall (if any)? Were any of these applications running
in the background when you installed SP3?

Has a(nother) Norton or McAfee application ever been installed on the
computer?

Did a Norton or McAfee free-trial come preinstalled on the computer when you
bought it? (Doesn't matter if you never used or Activated it.)

I already reinstalled the playback software several times without any
success.

I got bored one day and thought by myself 'hey, let's install that
great sp3 finally' but I wish I never had.

I think the USB-device was indeed connected when I installed sp3, can
this have caused the problem?

Norton has been installed in the past, but removed it longtime ago
using the Norton Removal Tool.

I'm not the only one who can't watch TV any longer after installing
sp3, but there's no decent solution for this problem.

We have no idea WTF you're talking about or to whom you're replying.

To keep track of things, it helps immensely if you quote all of the previous
message(s) in your replies to the newsgroup. Thank you.
