3. Berkeley, CA
4. Ann Arbor, MI
5. Boulder CO

8. Gainesville, FL
9. Washington, D.C.
10. Salt Lake City, UT

"The ranking was determined by compiling sales data of all book, magazine and newspaper sales in both print and Kindle format sinceJune 1, 2011, on a per capita basis in cities with more than 100,000 residents."

Here're the cities that topped the charts in several categories of orders:

Berkeley, CA - Travel books
Boulder, CO - Health, Fitness, and Dieting
Alexandria, VA - Romance
Cambridge, MA - Business and Finance

How would these areas compare if public libraries were surveyed? There are also numerous used bookstores. Would the results change if all possibilities were involved in a survey?

Probably differently, but I haven't seen such a survey nor do I know of any entity open to funding such a study. Why would they put so many dollars into a study when they could use those resources to stock schools with thousands of books?
