Southern California Heat Wave: Up to 130 F

The past few days have been rather warm in Southern California. Lancaster hit a record high of 111 F yesterday and the area is expected to continue to hit that high again today.

The Los Angeles Times is now reporting temperatures of 130 are now expected today in Death Valley. The world’s highest recorded in Furnace Creek, California was recorded in 1913.

The California power grid is struggling. This usually happens in August but a change in a jet stream is causing a heat wave in Southern California. A flex warning was issued for residents to conserve energy.

“Some of these generators have been running at full speed for many hours now and they’re not designed to do that and they break,” said Steven Greenlee, spokesman for the California Independent System Operator, managing 80% of the state’s power grid.
