  • On May 9, 2023, a jury found Donald J. Trump liable for sexual assault and defamation.
  • The jury awarded Ms. Carroll $5 million in damages.
  • Seven months ago, a second trial was set to seek damages for Donald J. Trump's 2019 statements regarding Ms. Carroll.
  • The second trial begins January 17, 2024. Judge Lewis A. Kaplan will preside over the case.
  • Jury selection has yet to begin.
  • Trump's lawyer (Alina Habba) requested a 1-week postponement.
  • Ms. Carroll's attorney (Roberta Kaplan) asserted that Trump misrepresented the reason for a delay, noting that Trump had scheduled a rally in New Hampshire.
  • Judge offers to delay the end of the trial if Trump wants to come to court on Monday, Jan. 22 to testify.
