Pessimism Sets In House

A senior House Republican staff member emailed HuffingtonPost, “My gut is that this ‘deal’ falls apart, and we have to start over when the 113th Congress reconvenes later this week.”

The 113th Congress will have 233 Republicans and 200 Democrats.

Luke Russert tweeted “Most members I’ve spoken to don’t think there are 217 #GOP votes for amended #fiscalcliff bill being whipped. We’ll see.” Later he suggested the House would be in session through 2 am.

The Senate is out of session until Wednesday. They are against the House kicking the bill back to the upper chamber.
