CES could be leaving Las Vegas

Two interesting twists happened today. First, CES organizers express dissatisfication with Las Vegas as a location for the trade show. Second, Apple introduces a new Mac Pro.

MSNBC is reporting CES organizers are in talks for a better deal. Any visitor to the trade show can attest that hotel prices during the week of CES are expensive. Some organizers claim hotel prices are typically five times a normal price.

The Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority said in a statement that it was listening carefully “to the concerns of trade show partners.” It said it was in discussions with hotel industry leaders and CES representatives.

Talks should occur quickly. Prices continue to increase each year, forcing companies to decide between attending the show or staying home.

Other intriguing twists regarding the show is Apple’s new eight processor Mac Pro. Why did Apple introduce product this week? What is being annouced during the CES 2008 that has Apple scared? Gizmodo published Apple’s official reply.

We’re very excited about these new products and we think our customers will be too, so we wanted to kick off 2008 by getting them into our customers’ hands as soon as possible. They’re both available starting today.

Jeremy Toeman suggests, "they did this intentionally to steal any limelight from the thousands
(yes THOUSANDS) of companies spending HUNDREDS OF MILLIONS of dollars
at CES." In contrast, some commenters suggest Apple has so many announcements that they wanted to start getting the information out now.
