PC World was fortunate enough to some hands-on time with Fujitsu’s new FMV-U8240 UMPC. It sounds like their first impressions were quite positive for the little device.
I’m not so keen on the 5.6″ display with native 800×600 resolution, but I can understand why Fujistu went this direction. First, the size. A 7″ display is large when you want an always-on-the-go device. And the resolution is needed in order to make Windows look good–I don’t mean from an asthetic standpoint, but rather because there are numerous critical system dialogs that are taller than the UMPC’s standard 480 high resolution. The high resolution is going to give users a better impression of Windows on a UMPC. It will make targets, such as the close button on windows awfully small, so I’m not sure how easy it is going to be to navigate with a finger in some applications. My guess is that the stylus and the keyboard will be most useful.
