As a developer, if I could snap my finger, what four or five things would I like to see that could make the Tablet PC platform even better?
Here’s my short list:
1) Integrate ink into the browser. By “browser” I mean at least IE, Firefox, and Safari. Let kids draw in ink. Let information workers fill out forms in ink. Let students Google (or Live Search 🙂 ) the answer for a handwritten math problem. Let ink be a first class citizen of browser-based email applications.
2) Extend the recognizer. For instance, add recognizer support for math equations or possibly “trainable” shapes.
3) Extend the types of “ink” supported. Provide tools for rendering strokes as pencil, water color, charcoal, crayons, and so on. Why have each ISV reinvent this for themselves?
4) Improve the ability to easily share ink–inside and outside the browser.
5) Provide a note taking SDK or an ink-enhanced RichEdit control that supports text, images, ink, pictures, and so on.
