Planning for Educause

Bob and I are making our plans for EDUCAUSE 2006. This year the higher-ed-minded, information technology event is to be held in Dallas from October 9th through the 12th.

The hotels are already filling up, so I’m not sure where we’re going to stay. However, I think we’ll be there at least two days–probably the 10th and the 11th. Plans may change, though.

Like at NECC, my main goal is to meet people and listen to their thoughts on deploying Tablets in their schools or hearing about their latest technology efforts–whatever they might be.

There will also be two interesting keynotes at the conference that I’m very much interested in attending. On the 10th, Google Vice President and Chief Internet Evangelist also known as one of the “founding fathers of the Internet”, Vinton Cerf is speaking. And on the following day, one of my engineering heroes Ray Kurzweil of Kurzweil Technologies is speaking. For many years I’ve been inspired by Ray’s ability to approach hard problems and make them real. Whether it’s OCR, or book reading machines, or keyboard instruments, Ray has a flair for engineering the future today.
