Michael Gartenberg has been trying out a Samsung Q1 and has a few details of his experience in this post.
A couple things catch my attention. He’s getting 3.5+ hours battery life. That’s great. And he’s finding the array mic good for VOIP, which makes sense.
On the other hand, he’s not too keen on the support for a pointing device in the Q1 nor its lack of support for a “real” Tablet driver. Hmmm. I think I understand what he means.
It’s things like these that make me want to try out a Q1 in my hands before purchasing one. (I’ve used pre-production units of the TabletKiosk eo and Founder UMPCs for several hours each and I was generally satisified. If I were forced to purchase one of the two at the time, I might have picked the Founder unit, if only the built-in camera was better. Without that difference, I would have flipped a coin.) If the cost was only $599 I’d buy a Q1 sight unseen, but for $1099, I have to think about it. Why? A Motion LS800 is only a few hundred away and it has an active digitizer. Oh, so many choices. My Slingbox is waiting 🙂
