Microsoft moves to standardize Office 12 XML formats

Microsoft is standardizing the Office 12 XML file formats. Good move. As data moves more and more via the Internet and can possibly persist for long periods of time online, we need the ability to get at our Office documents, if we have to. This sounds like a move in the right direction. It’ll be interesting to see how this unfolds. Robert Scoble has an interview with XML co-inventor and Microsoft employee Jean Paoli that goes into some detail about what this really means.

I wonder if this defines access to Word ink comments? So far, I haven’t figured out a way to get to them.
