CNet is reporting that Alan Kay is leaving HP’s research department during a wave of new layoffs at the company.
Alan Kay has been an active visionary in the computer industry since the 1970s. He was involved at Xerox Parc in the development of the graphical user interface and in the emergence of object oriented programing–in particular SmallTalk. Allan Kay also prototyped an early Tablet computer–called the Dynabook–which today we might label as a slate computer.
