Movie downloads coming soon to a computer near you?

Movie downloads are going to become mainstream. It’s only a matter of time. The movie industry has been dragging their financial feet and the technology has been inching along to make it all feasible. But it’s going to happen. The question is when?

And when first run movies are widely available for download I expect a change in how people think about using Tablets. The DVD won’t seem as valuable I imagine. Battery life will be measured in terms of the number of movies you watch. And Tablets will feel a bit more entertaining than workhorse.

While the movie industry mulls over the consequences of making their first run movies broadly available for download, I wonder why the TV producers haven’t taken the leap? When I’m on the go, I more often than not miss just about every TV show. Yeah, I could record everything at home and watch it later–but then my conversations about the shows would be all time shifted. I’d like to see one of the networks post their TV shows–embeded with old and/or new commercials is fine by me. I’d download and watch.
