The debate continues over whether Tablet PCs will succeed or not at Engadget. What I find compelling are the passionate responses–on both sides.
I can appreciate the naysayers. Give me any new idea or product and the person who says it’s going to fail is probably right. The odds are in their favor. This can’t be more true than in the tech world. And no new product is perfect. It takes several iterations to get things “right.” Some of the criticisms of Tablets are right or point out areas where Tablets aren’t the best solution.
What is encouraging to me though is the passion from the Tablet community. These are Tablet owners (or those who want to be) who strongly believe in the Tablet form factor. This is in itself a very good sign for the longevity of Tablets.
In fact, I was just listening to garage-venture-capitalist Guy Kawasaki in a CNet interview and he was pointing out that successful tech products often inspire a community around them. His thesis: Products that improve people’s lives or inspire them, inspire community passion. I think he’s right. And postings like Engadget’s are becoming a magnet to Tablet users interested in sharing their enthusiasm for their Tablets.
