Tom Saunders reports that the government of India has abandoned plans to order the $100 laptop under development by a team with MIT professor Nicholas Negroponte. The project is known as One Laptop per Child.
India Education Secretary Sudeep Banerjee said, “We do not think that [OLPC project leader] Nicholas Negroponte’s idea is mature enough to be taken seriously at this stage and no major country is presently following this.”
Silicon Valley Sleuth offers a video of the first working model of the OLPC prototype.
