I kept writing with my Tablet PC while waiting for my doctor to freeze a couple of unwanted skin spots this morning.
First, her nurse said, “What are you doing?” “Writing,” I replied “On a Tablet PC.” “Oh, I haven’t seen anything like that before. I’ll close the door, so no one disturbs you while you wait for the doctor. She should be right with you.”
Maybe 10 minutes later, the doctor entered the room. “That’s nice,” she said while looking at the Tablet. “Nice and compact. I see it’s an HP.” She’s bright! A Vanderbilt University School of Medicine grad.
“It’s a Tablet PC. Have you seen one before?”
“No,” she replied leaning over to look at the screen.
“Some call it a convertable notebook. Here’s the keyboard,” as I flipped the screen around exposing it. “Many physicians use them and an increasing number of hospitals, too.” Then I handwrote, “Hello,” entered it and showed her the type font text. “Ah,” and that was the end of the demo. Almost lunch time and a meeting down the hall.
But now, two more medical staff know that Tablet PCs exist. OK, Vanderbilt, when will you use Tablet PCs in your nursing and physician preparation program?
