Vision of Education: University of Virginia’s Library of Tomorrow

The University of Virginia continues to implement its vision of the Library of Tomorrow.

Digital Initiatives at the UVa Library reflect the vision of a distributed and flexible technology infrastructure that enhances access, manipulation, storage, distribution, and integration of information and services throughout the University of Virginia.

UVa’s digital initiative has served as a model for other libraries to digitize. They offer copies of committee and other guidelines, terminology, and various updates. Some have followed.

This initiative also provides an example for other education decision makers formulating their vision of education, say for 2010. They might adapt the UVa model to local school needs. The model provides descriptions of scope, function, and hints of consequences for digitizing learning content.

I hope teachers uninformed about the digital potential for increasing learning among their students find the UVa digital library collection useful today.
