Technology Already Changed Education Leaving No Road Back

Teachers interested, even passively, in technology, here’s something worth scheduling to view.

The no-frills interviews by Charlie Rose broadcast April 13, 2006, of Google CEO Eric Schmidt and Verizon CEO Ivan Seidenberg give glimpses of our quickening world.

By talking about their companies and industries, each expert infers how technology has already changed education beyond anyones predictions.

Each studiously (and with a knowing smile) says he does not know what products and services we should expect his company to offer in three to five years. They reason that changes in technology and costs change so rapidly that predictions cannot account for items still not yet invented that will likely change and create markets.

This is a good episode to illustrate to students the competitive world in which they will live after leaving school. It also provides teachers with an external validity referent for evaluating the adequacy of our instruction.
