Ultramobile Lifestyle PCs Coming

Rob Bushway and Dennis Rice report from the Microsoft Mobile (Tablet PC) Partner Briefing. Bill Mitchell, Microsoft Corporate Vice President, Mobile Platform Division, described an ultramobile lifestyle PC coming to market.

Watch for an announcement in a month or so.

Dennis summarizes the Microsoft Lifestyle PC this way as he paraphrases Mitchell: Bill Mitchell introduced the concept of “Lifestyle PC’s”. The concept (and it is just that right now folks!) is basically a low price point, small “UltraMobile” PC that is meant to be the device that goes everywhere with you, and that you will not want to leave home without.

Loren summarizes Mitchell and Arnie Lund, Microsoft Director of User Experience, Mobile Platform Division this way: The goal is to design a platform that can support many different lifestyles, so that each person feels like the platform is aimed to them.

Arnie, I did not see any reference to teachers in your PowerPoint slides about user experiences. Do you consider teachers and students as part of your user experience? I hope you include us. Many of us are excited about PC mobility in classrooms and beyond to address 24/7 learning.

Tablet PC Guy (Dennis) said it will be nice to have a little brother.

The suggested MSRP for the Lifestyle PC, about $500, always on, wearable, and more. Sounds interesting.

I will try to stay up with information and keep you informed, Teacher.
