Students Create Lab at Maywood Middle School in Corning, CA

reports that students at Maywood Middle School in Corning, CA will routinely interact with EAST-specified hardware and software in animation, computer-aided designs, engineering design, visualization, database design, Web page design, programming, office automation, digital film making, virtual reality, global positioning and geographic information systems.

Wow! And there’s more. Students have installed the lab, and they run it, maintain it and work through any problems they run into while in it.

In the process of solving these problems, they will learn to become creative, intuitive, adaptable learners who can solve unpredictable, real world problems, said district technology and media service supervisor Mike Garofalo.

Mr. Garofalo works part-time, manages five elementary school libraries, three computer labs, and four school websites. He also assists with writing and editing new grants, and managing some awarded grants. Way to go, Mike!

Maybe I missed it, what is your vision of possible schooling in 2010? Looks like it includes students actively participating in the creation and maintenance of learning technology.
