Heads up, people working on educational Internet entrepreneurial ideas of the Google and eBay scale at home in living rooms, closets and garages. Looks as though another gorilla has emerged in the developer ecosystem.
Barbara Grady reports “We are trying to create technology that will allow a million new Internet entrepreneurs” to come forward, said David Patterson, University of California – Berkeley professor of electrical engineering and head of the new RAD Lab. Technically, faculty and graduate students will work on so-called Reliable, Adaptive and Distributed (RAD) systems, thus the name RAD Lab for the research center. Google, Microsoft and Sun Microsystems will each fund the lab with $500,000 a year for five years.
