Mobile WiMax making its way through standards committee

One more step closer to changing the world.

The mobile WiMax standard is making its way through the IEEE standards committee.

I’ve had several highly skilled electrical engineers tell me otherwise, but I woudn’t discount Intel. Their arguments typically are that Intel doesn’t fully appreciate the wireless carrier world and the competition that goes on there. My guess, however, is that the worlds of communications and computing are merging and the winners will be those that embrace this change. Intel is at least standing in the right starting gate. And some wireless carriers, such as Verizon with its EVDO, are thinking in the right direction too.
