More IMish news

Google Talk isn’t the only IM news today.

MSN has released a new version of it’s MSN Messenger client. They’re now on version 7.5. From what I see, not much new. No scratchout of ink. No copy/paste of images. No extensibility. The changes appear to be small, which isn’t necessarily bad–just uninspiring. That’s OK. I’m guessing MSN Messenger will continue to be my primary IM tool for awhile. I do continue to fervently dislike MSN’s approach of enabling every MSN feature in the setup program by default.

Skype is also marching along in the IM announcement parade. Today they’re launching their developer SkypeWeb and SkypeNet programs. I haven’t found a link yet. In fact, from the website it appears that SkypeNet API is merely “coming soon” at this point. Here’s more the Skype blog:

SkypeNet API will enable developers to access our IM and Presence system and bring it into new applications without needing to have the full version of Skype running on the machine.

I’m not sure if this means it’ll be possible to add chat-in-ink support or not.
