Marc Cuban of blog search engine Ice Rocket is getting fed up with spammers using blogs. It’s about time people start talking about this.
Yes, the blogging services can help out here using various spam prevention techniques. But the search engines are going to have to do their share too.
Marc suggests some structural changes. He wants to require that posts must have a valid email address when submitting them to a search engine. Ew. More email addresses. Not my favorite solution.
My guess is that Ice Rocket is going to have to innovate their way out of this. And if they can, they’ll have better search results than let’s say Technorati, which is experiencing similar problems. If Ice Rocket can’t do it and Technorati continues to get hampered by spam, it’s going to leave the door open for someone else. That’s the nature of things.
