2012 Reflections on Tux Reports Network

This year has been spectacular for the Tux Reports Network. Bringing all of the sites together has taken all year, with work continuing on the navigation menus, landing pages for the sub-networks, and a common theme.

The Network Rebuild began June 2011, attempting to bring 130 sites together. We now stand at 195 domains in the network, many waiting to be introduced or updated during the 2013 year.

We started 2012 by migrating forum posts from the 90s away from vBulletin and over to the XenForo software. Eventually we removed years worth of posts in the forums. This radical change allowed us to focus on new posts and discussions rather than old ideas. We look forward to opening the community up to new visitors so they can also participate in our network.

Many new products were introduced or updated this year: The introduction of WordPress 3.5 in December, the updates to iOS, and the release of the Microsoft Surface Tablet, which includes Office 2013.

Discussions about the presidential campaign and election were constant, with Republicans having a tough time on election night. The federal budget remains in the news with many of us thinking there will be an eleventh hour sell out of the American middle class. After all, we can all look at receipts and outlays and see the imbalance over the past 70 years. Regardless, we certainly do not appreciate the discussions about social security needing reform – because this has nothing to do with the national debt. Still debates happened.

In other news, the Benghazi attack also remains in discussions, as Secretary of State Clinton spends her New Years Eve in the hospital. While we didn’t write about former President George HW Bush being in the hospital – we wish him a speedy recovery, too.

But not all was bad news during the year. Many of us were excited that the Treeing Walker Coonhound is now an official breed. Of course, there were many movies released this year – some were good and some were bad. We also enjoyed spending the holidays at Disneyland Resorts in Southern California.

We look forward to the 2013 year with joy and excitement. We wish you and yours a safe celebration this evening.
