INSTRUCTOR: a. A person or other entity that answers by demonstration or other direction a learner’s two primary generic questions: What do I have to do? and What will it cost me to do it? b. One that shows a learner which behavior patterns to use in order to demonstrate a solution to a problem. c. Responses to a learners’ generic primary questions in ways that reduce the number of trials-and-errors when facing an unfamiliar situation, such as an academic problem. d. One that provides prompts and other cues that reduce the personal cost and increase the personal gain for a learner. e. To adapt, adopt, and manage behavior patterns to survive the moment.

Synonyms: An instructor gives instructions and other prompts that reduce the number of trials-and-errors a learner makes. Instructon occurs when it preceeds learning. A teacher plays a social role that includes instruction as well as other duties. When these duties do not result in a learner learning a lesson a teacher offers, then instruction has not occurred regardless of what a teacher has or has not done.

Highlights

An instructor is one from whom a learner adopts one or more behavior patterns that solve problems consistently in observable ways. An instructor may be a person, machine, or a situation.
