WLM 2011

I downloaded the new WLM 2011 and found I hated it. I really liked the
older 2009 version and I just could not uninstall the newer 2011 version
so I downloade Thunderbird and I'll it as it is more like the older
outlook express that I did like years ago.

Welcome to the TB club. I, like you, tried WLM with Win7, but found it
too unreliable, as it frequently failed to post. IMO it wasn't as good
as OE6 under XP. And if MS isn't going to fix the "show previous post"
issue (ie it doesn't show anything, even a ">" for previous text), that
makes it unusable. Remember also that MS has no interest in Usenet news
now - it prefers its own forums where it has full control.

TB isn't perfect, but it is better than WLM.

Me three. What I really wanted was OE6, but the closest proximity I
could find is TB 2. It has the added advantage of being available in a
portable version.

I find myself sticking to older versions with a lot of programs.

Can you have more than one hotmail address at the same time?
Can you make your own stationery & signatures?
Had a quick look but could not find out so I uninstalled it. TIA

Yes.

Yes but you will need the add on Quick Text for sigs unless you only
want one sig.

You didn't look long enough. TB is far superior to Outhouse Distress by
a long shot. To wit: real time spell check as you type. Junk filters.
Very, very, very, very easy to back up. Take a longer look in both
Preferences and Account Settings. It auto compacts itself so you won't
have to look forward to the old OE, "would you like to compact now even
though you haven't a back up and the process may lead to message loss" trip.

All that said, if you use Windows, buy Outlook if you want OE on steroids.

I don't know about hotmail, but I have multiple POP3/SMTP accounts with
the same server. You can make your own signatures (as I have here), but
I don't know about stationery. I'm a text only guy.

I'm really a newbie when it comes to Thunderbird. I suggest subscribing
to the
mozilla.support.thunderbird group on the news.mozilla.org server. That's
where
I go for answers.

Yes, either all delivered into a single inbox, or kept separate.

Dunno, why would you want to? html formatted email is evil.

Out of the box, you can have one signature per identity, and multiple
identities per account. If you want random sigs, or to select sigs from
your own list, there are extensions for that.

Don't use it for newsgroups until they (the people at Microsoft) fix the
plain text reply posting which is broken. Instead try Thunderbird for
newsgroups - it's free for the download.
