Windows XP SP2 and Copy/Paste Stops Functioning

We recently migrated all of our machines to Windows XP SP2 (windows-only
environment) from having a novell client environment.

One thing we have noticed, and just for the record we have Windows XP SP2
before on some machines, but not all, so when people are doing a lot of
copying and pasting, the paste function stops working. We have received
several TIDs including people using MSTSC, but the majority of people are
seeing the issue on their normal machine (same machine as before, doing the
same thing) and the paste is indeed hosed. They reboot and all would be good
for a little while.

We found a hotfix, loaded that and it still does not seem to make a
difference. We have Dell machines wil 1 or 2 G of memory. Several people
have reported using other tools at the same time for example SQL Server Mgmt
Studio 2005, AD MMC console with Outlook and Word open. It is all over the
board.

It almost appears to us that there is a memory leak. Is there a utility or
something we can load to figure out what might be causing this. Or perhaps,
the 50 others I see having the issue on google, what type of fix they put in
place. Rebooting several times a day is not an option for people and we will
not be going to Windows XP Sp3 soon.

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

You may need to reconsider that, if you value the security of your computers
and network. Extended Support for WinXP SP2 ends on 10 July 2010. After
that date, computers running WinXP SP2 will NOT be offered any further
security updates, Automatic Updates will not work, and Windows Update
website will not be accessible until SP3 is installed.

PS: Vista Gold will soon not be supported either. How times flies...
