I am running Windows XP MCE Service Pack 3 on a HP
Pavilion desktop computer..
I have a Zoom Serial Modem attached to a LAVA PCI Dual Serial Port
Printer card. I have uninstalled all the drivers for both of the
serial ports and Printer port as well as the Zoom modem.
I then re installed them from a Floppy disk for the serial card etc,
and the modem from the Zoom CD.
When I try to dial the modem I get no dial tone and it aborts the dial
and gives a message that it will try again in one minute.
I have tested the Serial card with PC Doctor and the modem with Modem
Doctor. And they both check out OK. Does anyone have any idea as to
what is going on.
I dialed out using the serial modem earlier this AM and it worked OK.
I shut down my computer to have breakfast, and turned it on an hour
later.
Now I am having the problem outlined above. Any help would be most
appreciated.
I am using a Creative USB Modem Blaster at present, but I can only
connect at 28.8 bps and I was able to connect using the serial modem
on the same phone line at 49.2 bps and sometimes at 50.6 bps depending
on line conditions.

Are you still using Task Manager to start/run EXPLODER.EXE?

About 10 days after my earlier post, I hooked up the serial modem and
it worked again. I do not know why it worked again, it just did.
As I said above I used PCDoctor an it gets a dial tone when testing
the modem, but when I use the Windows Connection Wizard to create a
new connection and I dial it never picks up the hook so no dial tone.

Couple of possible, the modem isn't reseting after the first use because
of incorrect configuration. Or your init string in the modem setup is
incorrect.
