Windows Search Install Error

I have tried repeatedly to install the new search engine from MS. The
installation errors off with the following .log entry:
00:00.031: INFO: Opening log for preliminary WDSSetup.exe actions
00:00.031: Started: 2010/03/09 (Y/M/D) 10:23:01.609 (local)
00:00.047: Command line:
00:14.110: INFO: ****** Found 2 Read-Only keys. ******
00:14.141: ERROR: Error backing up the ACLs on the following key(s):
00:14.156: INFO: HKLM\Software\Classes\.xsl
00:14.156: INFO: HKLM\Software\Classes\.xml
00:14.172: INFO: Closing down log for WDSSetup.exe logging

The information is too cryptic for me to make meanuingful corrections
to the registry or installed programs to overcome the error. Any
informatioon would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Are you logged on as an Administrator? Because the permissions for those
keys (on my machine, anyway) are read-only except for Administrators and
System. If you're logged in as an Administrator, then check the permissions
for those keys. If you don't know what I'm talking about, then it's better
you don't go into the Registry. Find someone who does know about the
Registry, or spend some time educating yourself, especially about backing up
the Registry and how to restore it, (or use System Restore), before diving
in.

What is the new search engine and did you download it from where?

Generally, most people want to know how to uninstall the Windows
search when they see how much CPU and memory it consumes. That is
easy to do too but depends on the version.

If you are logged in with an Administrator account you should not have
this problem so something has modified the registry sections
permissions for you. That could be malware or something else you
installed, but either way it needs to be fixed if you want to install
the application.

You can do without Windows Search, wait for help from somebody else or
fix it yourself.

Before working on you registry, you should make a Restore Point or
back up the registry with this popular free tool:

You can then use regedit to figure it out and adjust the permissions,
or you can use either of the two methods in the following link to
reset the registry permissions back to "normal".

I have used all methods, but the commands in the link below are easier
if you are nervous about editing the registry or have a lot of systems
to fix.

If you study your current registry situation and then look at the
commands, the commands should make some sense about what needs to be
done (or undone).
