Hi, Emrys.
Have ALL your OE6 .dbx files (which OE calls "folders"), especially
Folders.dbx, on a thumb drive or other source that WLM can read - and be
sure that you've given yourself permission (in WLM) to read that source.
Then, in WLM:
File | Import } Messages... | Microsoft Outlook Express 6
Then Browse to the location of your .dbx files...and wait. Depending on how
many messages you are importing, this could take a long time. OE6 stores
all messages for one folder in a single .dbx file, so 1,000 emails from your
Mom would all be in Mom.dbx. But WLM stores each message as a separate .eml
file in a Storage Folder that you can create and name "Mom" - and it takes a
lot longer to process 1,000 small files than one big one. In OE, a single
bad byte in one message might cost you the whole 1,000 emails in Mom.dbx; in
WLM, only the one .eml message would be lost.
> but will it import .dbx files?
Yes - and no. As I said, it will import the contents, but it will store
them as .eml files - NOT .dbx.
> Also, will it import my suitably backed up 'Address Book' (Contacts)?
Yes, but not from WLM's main window. Click the Contacts icon at the bottom
left to open the Contacts screen. On the Contacts screen, click File |
Import | Windows Address Book (WA
, then Browse to your WAB's location.
(And Thip is wrong about Identities: WLM doesn't use those at all, so
there's no way to Import those.)
