Windows & FAX and Scan

Has anybody used windows & FAX and Scan?
I am trying to send some documents. I do a new fax and I attach some
documents either .tif for .jpg and click the send button.
I get an error message that says unable to send document data is invalid. If
I remove the attachments the fax works.

Can someone tell me what I am doing wrong?

Caveat - I know nothing about Fax & Scan. But how do you fax an attachment?
Sounds to me like an email. I'd say either email with attachments or cut
and paste the attachments into the fax body.

You can attach documents either from a file or from a scanner. Either way I
get the invalid data message.

Yeah, you're trying to attach files to a fax. Faxes cannot have an
attachment. That's why the error message is saying it can't do it.

So then how do I fax a document from my scanner? Why is there an option to
attach from a file or from a scanner that won't work?

By using the fax program.

That's for email. Try reading the manual that came with your
printer/scanner.

To insure that you compose a compatible fax, simply insert the images
into the body of an MS Word document, then simply fax the document.

Dear "C" your response is absolutely wrong! Attachment in a fax program is
different from an email. This is how you can fax any file e.g. a Word
document or an image (which as the poster has correctly mentioned could be a
scanned image). All the fax programs, including Windows native (old and new)
work this way.

I don't know why Nunya's fax attachment doesn't work, if I find an answer
I'll post a reply.

No, it isn't.

According to Microsoft (and my 18 years experience using Windows) yes it is:

Following is quoted from the Article:
http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windows-vista/features/fax-scan.aspx

Attach the document you want to fax, just as you would add an attachment
to an e-mail message, and the pages of the attachment become the pages of
your fax. You can send more documents in the same fax by adding more
attachments.

One thing that should always accompany any
suggestion/solution/recommendation is a phrase such as "as far as I know",
"I think", "to the best of my knowledge" etc.

Considering yourself infallible and being offended by any suggestion to the
contrary would not be of much concern to me if it wasn't on such public
domain. When you insist on an erroneous instruction/comment in a forum, you
may cause a participant much unneeded waste of time and effort, not to
mention potential harm to their device or files. Please do not take an
invalidation of your point so personally, we are all here to help one
another.

Dear Nunya,

I found one "possibility", (sorry I couldn't give you a definite answer).

According to Microsoft, when attaching a documents to be faxed, "The graphic
must have a program associated with it that has printing capabilities".

It is possible that that the problem is from file association,
associate/re-associate .tiff and .jpg files with a program such as paint and
see if that solves the problem.

Regards,

Brian
