We have 2 cash register computers they are:
Register #1:Windows XP Professional SP 3RAM: 2GBRMS: v2.0.0128 Register
#2: Windows XP Professional SP 3RAM: 2GBRMS: v2.0.0128

we would have errors:
4-5 times a day when using Retail Management System
a ballon would come up from near the the task bar near the clock.

"Windows Delayed Write Failed

Windows was unable to save all the data for the file C\$Mft. The data has been lost. This error may be caused by a failure of your computer hardware or network connection. Please try to save this file elsewhere"

What should I do This keeps freezing up my cash registers I can not ring up customers

Hi Ash

The file called $Mft is the NTFS "Master File Table". It is a hidden
file which stores information about all the other files on the hard
disk. It is a very important file.

The error indicates that the file system tried to update the Mft but
couldn't, for some reason - such as the Mft has been corrupted, it has
run out of space, or there is some kind of hardware problem preventing
the data from being successfully written to disk.

The first thing to do is run CHKDSK. You'll need to do this out of
business hours, as it may require rebooting the machine and may also
take some time to run (depending on how big the hard disks are - say ,
10-15 minutes).

Log in as Administrator, open a command prompt, and enter this command:

C:/>CHKDSK C: /F /V

You will get a message asking if you want to run the command at the next
reboot. Answer Yes, and then reboot the machine, to let CHKDSK run.

Repeat for any other hard disks in the machine - eg D: if you have a
second hard disk. No reboot is necessary for other drives.

As its name implies, CHKDSK will check the disk and file system for
errors, and attempt to correct them.

If you still get the "Delayed Write Failed" error after running CHKDSK,
then you probably need the help of a skilled computer support technician
who can examine the machines onsite. There could be several possible
causes of the problem, some of them quite subtle; and not really suited
to troubleshooting by random suggestions from a public newsgroup.

You'd also want to contact the vendor of your cash register software.
They have have some experience with this error.

Hope this helps,

Andrew
