Windows and Internet Explorer "Favorites"

This has been bugging for a while now. Its spelt wrong! The only place
anywhere in the world I could find where anybody spelt it like that (without
the "u") was in Peurto Rico. Weird that Microsoft would spell it that way
just for them, but weirder that it cannot just be set to the Windows locale.

Any way to change this?

Obviously I need to see it spelt as per British English as "Favourites".

Many thanks,
Alain

If that's the only problem you're having with Windows, count your lucky
stars. Oh, and it's spelled *Puerto* Rico.

Install an English-UK, -AU, -CA, etc., language version of Windows.

Spelt wrong?

Notable Spelling differences between American and British English
http://www2.gsu.edu/~wwwesl/egw/jones/differences.htm
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/American_and_British_English_spelling_differences#Historical_origins

See PA Bears post, if you don't like the American English spelling of
"Favorites".

Understandable that the word would be spelled "Favorites" in Puerto Rico.
Since the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico is a self-governing unincorporated
territory of the United States, they spell it the American English
way..."Favorites".

Good luck,

Donald Anadell

All of us (or almost all of us) in the USA spell it "favorites,"
*without* the "u." This is not an issue of right vs. wrong; it's an
issue of different spelling standards in the USA and the UK.

> was in Peurto Rico.

That, however, *is* an issue of right vs. wrong. In both the USA and
the UK, it's spelled "Puerto Rico" (and also note that what those in
the UK write as "spelt," we in the USA write as "spelled).

I take it then that you cannot change "Favorite" to "Favourite" in IE, then?

Thanks,
Alain

Sure you can: Just install an, e.g., English-UK language version of Windows.

Silly comment. Its spelt "Alain" in France (my origins), and variously
Allen, Allan and Alan. Granted "Alan" is probably the most common spelling
on average.

That was my point.

And "Favorites" is spelled that way in the US. Here you want your name
spelled the way it "is" in France, and yet you want Favorites spelled
the British way. I think you'd love Burger King.... :p

Umm, people can not be born in France and still have a French name. I know
people who spell "Catherine with a 'K'". That should be obvious to most
reasonable people. That using software with US-only spelling is annoying to
non-Americans, should also be obvious to most reasonable people. Asking
whether that can be changed would seem reasonable as well.
