Windows 7 restore point disabled by administrator

I am using a standalone laptop and cannot create a restore point. The
system restore dialog box contains the following error message 'Restore
point creation is disabled by your system administrator".

Also if I try to go to a previous restore point, the "Open System
Restore" button is grayed out.

If you're on a Domain, check with your IT department. They have the Power.

Thanks: that allowed me to use regedit to change
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE \ Software \ Policies \ Microsoft \ Windows NT \
SystemRestore.

Everything works as it should now
