Windows 7 & Linux Ubuntu Printing Connection

I am trying to print form an Ubuntu PC to my Windows 7 network printer
wirelessly. The ubuntu PC discovers the PC but when I try to connect it
asks me for a Username and password. I know there is a network Printing
paswword and I know it. But I don't have a Username. Where can I find my
username in Windows 7?

Is there something I need to do to my "Microsoft Security Essentials" to
allow a Linux machine thru? I have no problems with my other W7, Vista or
XP machines connecting.

Not being an Ubuntu user but having eight years Linux experience you may
find this article helpful.

Re: Windows 7 & Linux Ubuntu Printing Connection (SOLVED)

The simplest way, by far, is to simply use lpd to print:

On the Win7 Machine:

Make sure lpd is turned on in Windows 7. Under the "Programs and Features" control panel click on "Turn Windows Features On and Off". Expand "Print and Document Services" and make sure that "LPD Print Service" is checked.

On the Ubuntu Machine:

Set up printing from Samba as usual, but do NOT use something like "smb://PCName/PrinterName. Instead use "lpd://IP_address_of_Win7_machine/PrinterName".

With this method you can bypass all the permissions issues that mess up printing from Ubuntu to a Win7 attached printer!
