I installed Windows 7 Pro Upgrade on a clean disk today and was
favorably impressed by the speed and simplicity of the operation. The
only choices I had to make were at the very beginning, whereas XP had
asked me a few things at the beginning and said it was going to take 39
minutes (or however long it was), but when I came back 35 minutes later
I found that it was asking for further information and was still going
to take over 30 minutes.

It did not find and automatically install drivers for all my devices
(e.g., UPS, multi-serial card) but the Firewire and video cards and all
the on-motherboard devices were installed without user intervention --
unlike with XP.

Welcome to Windows 7, I also came here from Win XP in September 2009.

Windows 7 does it differently to Windows XP and I was pointed to a web
site where I could get help: http://www.howtogeek.com/tag/windows-7/

I often find their daily email "TIPS" of no use but occasionally one of
their tips is "Exactly" want I want. :)

They can send a short 'Free' newsletter if you ask:

Add the Recycle Bin to Start Menu in Windows 7
Add the Recycle Bin to the Taskbar in Windows 7
