I have loaded Office 2000 onto my new Windows 7 computer. Excel, Publisher,
Access all work fine but Word opens and freezes. Have to close it with task
manager. I've tried setting it to XP SP3 compatibility . . . same problem.
It worked fine on my old XP machine. I have deleted it and reinstalled . .
.. same problem. Any suggestions?

Thanks,

Rick Morrison

Until you can find the workaround, you might think about installing
OpenOffice.org - at least you'll be able to function.

My office 2000 works fine with my new Win7. There are some very good and
helpful people here, so hopefully they can help you to get yours working.

Office 2000 works very well for me under Windows 7. Word especially has
never once had a problem. Unfortunately, my advice is limited to completely
removing it and reinstalling it, though I'm doubtfull that will fix
anything.

I have noticed that clippy is a bit flaky, so you might try running setup
and disabling office assistant.

Hmm ... just maybe, the old chestnut - a corrupted 'normal.dot' template? :-

"WD2000: Invalid Page Fault When Normal.dot Is a Document"
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;211541

"A corrupt global template causes errors when automating Word"

Good luck

Try right-clicking the Word icon and clicking Run as Administrator.
You should only have to do this once.

Have you installed all the Office 2000 service packs?
What service pack level is it?

For the same reason, I installed MS Office 2007 under Windows 7. There are
compatibility problems with files from the same application saved from the
two versions. I had to download a compatibility conversion pack from
Microsoft web-site for opening the files saved with the old MS 2000 under XP
in MS2007 under Windows 7.

Good suggestion . . . I downloaded the good SR-1 file and got it showing
SR-1 but I can't get the SP2 or SP3 updates to run, both say the proper
level (SR-1) is not present even though the computer shows it is.
