Why is WMP 11 for vista not accessing the web for ablbum info?

I have been using WMP11 in vista 32 for sometime now going through all of my
MP3s and updating the album info via the "Find Album Info" option. It was
working just fine for several months. Now when I choose that option the
screen pops up and hangs there for several minutes, and then I get a standard
connection error like the computer does not have a working internet
connection. Although I certainly do. I also deleted all the cache out of my
browsers history. Any clues to why it was working and now it is not?

If you temporarily disable the firewall, does that help?

Are you able to browse the web in Internet Explorer? Make sure Work
Offline isn't checked in the File menu of both WMP and IE.

Another thing worth trying is resetting IE's Internet settings.

Tim,
Thanks for the response. I have verified that I do have a internet
connection, deleted all temp internet files, reset internet settings under
the advanced tab, and disabled my firewall, and rebooted the machine. Still
no luck.

In WMP's Options, are the first two settings on the Privacy tab checked?
On the Player tab, is "Connect to the Internet" checked?

Did you install or uninstall any
firewall/antivirus/anti-spyware/anti-ads/proxy software before this
started happening?

The first 2 boxes are checked under the privacy tab. I did not install
anything related to firewalls or anti virus but I did install a windows
update recently. Still no luck.....

What do you see when you go to
http://fai.music.metaservices.microsoft.com in IE? You should get a HTTP
403 error (forbidden).

If you don't mind losing some settings and reinstalling some recently
installed applications, you could use System Restore to roll back to a
system restore point from before the problem started occurring. Removing
recently installed Windows updates is worth trying too.
