Why does Magnifier start automatically at random?

Magnifier starts automatically with no intentional action on my part.
It is no started at beginning of session, but may pop up at any time.
There does not seem to be any pattern.
Would someone please tell me how to stoop this? It is driving me nuts.

Maybe try running Process Explorer (Google it for further info) to see if
that can tell you what starts running Magnify.exe.

But if that doesn't work, if you (or anyone else using the computer) doesn't
need the Magnifier, you could always try renaming Magnify.exe, so that
whatever is starting the program won't be able to find a file of that name
in the sytem32 folder. However, you won't find it that easy to rename the
file, without changing permissions under the security tab within
"Properties".

Hi, Bobelk99.

What do you have set as the "trigger" to start the Magnifier?

What kind of mouse do you use and what driver does it use?

My Microsoft Wireless Laser Mouse 6000 has programmable buttons. Using
IntelliPoint drivers, I can change the settings, but I've left them at the
defaults (except when I'm in a program, such as WLMail). The default for
the Front Thumb Button is "Magnify". Whenever I press the front thumb
button - intentionally or not - the Magnifier springs into action. Another
click of the same button closes it.

When I'm running WLMail, that button is programmed to <Ctrl>U, for Next
Unread Message. But sometimes, when reading messages, I switch to another
window (maybe for a quick look at a web page in the background) and then
forget where I am. When the mouse returns to Mail and I click that button
again, I'm startled by the Magnifier starting up - which is actually what
I've told it to do, but I forgot.

Does any of this sound familiar?

De-program the button on your mouse from activating the magnifier. Control Panel
\Mouse. Most likely you are using a Microsoft mouse and probably the 6000 model

Thanks guys. Mouse is 6000, as you stated. I use it left handed, and
did not even realize the thumb buttons were there.

Did not have this issue with XP, but evidently the 'new' Intellipoint
drivers added a little.

Problem solved. Thanks again
