IT technician told me to download Microsoft Virtual Machine from following
link, I prefer to download any tools directly from microsoft rather than from
unknown site. They provide following link to me. Please take a look whether
it is Windows Virtual PC or not. Do you confirm that Windows Virtual PC is
Microsoft Virtual Machine?

Could you please give me any suggestions?
Thank you very much for any suggestions

I find your question to be somewhat ambiguous, are you referring to:

a.) A Virtual Machine (VM), or
b.) A Java Virtual Machine (JVM)

They are after all apples and oranges.

If you are talking about the Microsoft Java Virtual Machine(MSJVM) it is no
longer downloadable from Microsoft, but can still be obtained from the
web...see:

http://www.mvps.org/marksxp/WindowsXP/java.php

If you are talking about a Virtual Machine(VM), or Virtual PC as Microsoft
calls it, the see:

http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/...02-3199-48A3-AFA2-2DC0B40A73B6&displaylang=en

Note: If you are using Windows XP Home Edition, Microsoft Virtual PC 2007
will not install on that machine without some manipulation to the setup .msi
file. See:

Good luck,

AH! That's an entirely different kettle of fish! What you meant to
ask for is "Microsoft's *JAVA* Virtual Machine," which is quite a
different thing than "Microsoft's virtual machine."

As the result of a well-publicized lawsuit by Sun Microsystems, and
the ensuing settlement, Microsoft was not allowed to provide its own
Java Virtual Machine to Windows XP users. You can usually get the same
(if not more) functionality by downloading Sun's version of Java from
http://www.java.com/en/download/inc/windows_new_ie.jsp. If you must
have Microsoft's Java Virtual Machine for the purposes of using some
legacy application, it may still be available from some 3rd-party web
sites, one of which is here: http://www.virtualmachine.tk/.

If you do choose the Microsoft JVM, be sure to apply a needed
security patch.

So will Java Virtual Machine (JVM) do the same job as Microsoft Virtual
Machine?
Do you have whether it is Microsoft Virtual Machine or not based on the
following link?
http://203.129.71.187/vmdownload/msjavx86.exe
Thanks everyone very much for any suggestions

Do you know whether Java Virtual Machine will do the same job as Java for
Windows - Internet Explorer or not?
Referring to control panel, I already install Java Platform Standard Edition
6 Version 6 Update 7, do I need Java Virtual Machine for any online
application?
Will it be common to install Java Platform Standard Edition 6 and Java
Virtual Machine at the same time? or do I only need to install Java Virtual
Machine and it will work for all Java issues?
Thank everyone very much for any suggestions

Why did the tech tell you to download any version of Virtual Machine?

Control Panel | Add/Remove Programs | Set Program Access and Defaults |
Expand the section that's already checked (e.g., Custom): What's
listed/checked in the 'Choose a default virtual machine for Java' section?

Java Virtual Machine is selected as default.
Techician tells me their online application work with their chosen Microsoft
Virtual Machine. Without installing Microsoft Virtual Machine, the delay
stock price cannot be displayed at all. With Microsoft Virtual Machine, the
delay stock price can be delayed, but the pop message is about " this page
does not contain HTTPS compatible content, which may harm the web page's
security. Do you want to view only the safety page content?" They said I need
to select No for IE8
Do you have any suggestions on what they are doing? why does Java virtual
machine not work for their online application?
Thank everyone very much for any suggestions

[Crosspost to IE General newsgroup]

Are you running WinXP SP2 or SP3?

What online application are you trying to use? Is it supported in IE8?

Does this online application run in the Internet zone or Trusted Sites zone?
<=just a question, NOT a suggestion!

Without downloading/installing MS Virtual Machine...

1. Does the behavior persist if you start IE in No Add-ons mode?

=> Start | (All) Programs | Accessories | System Tools | Internet
Explorer (No add-ons).

Troubleshooting and Internet Explorer’s (No Add-ons) Mode [Applies to IE7 &
IE8 in all OSS]
http://blogs.msdn.com/ie/archive/2006/07/25/678113.aspx

2. Does the behavior persist if you Reset IE Advanced settings (RIES)?
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/923737

3. What anti-virus application or security suite is installed and is your
subscription current? What anti-spyware applications (other than Defender)?
What third-party firewall (if any)? Were any of these applications running
in the background when you installed IE8?

4. Has a(nother) Norton or McAfee application ever been installed on this
machine (e.g., a free-trial version that came preinstalled when you bought
it)?

No, I've already explained to you(in a previous post) that they are two
different things.

Based on subsequent posts made by you in this thread it appears that you are
trying to view a Java Applet on the web, and the Tech is telling you that
thier Applet will only work on machines that have the old Microsoft Java
Virtual Machine(MSJVM) installed on them.

I've also explained to you that Microsoft no longer offers thier Java
Virtual Machine for download at any of their sites. I also supplied you
with a link:
http://www.mvps.org/marksxp/WindowsXP/java.php
That contains detailed instrutions on how to download and install the old
Microsoft Java Virtual Machine. It involves downloading Build 3805 of the
MSJVM first and installing it, and then downloading Build 3810 and
installing it over top of Build 3805.

Do not use this link, use the link I supplied above and follow the
instructions supplied at that link.

Good luck,
