When Will WordPress Multisite Be Enhanced?

WordPress released version 3.4 (Grant Green) on June 13, 2012. New releases are usually made available every 3-4 months, therefore, we can expect version 3.5 to be released around December. The WordPress roadmap states December 5 but we all know the code is ready when it is ready.

While release 3.4 is solid, there seems to be a trend with the last few releases - that is - nothing is done to improve the multisite capabilities. This feature seems to have become pushed to the back.

There are ideas presented, and voted on, about improving the visual editor and other important improvements - but Multisite - eh - it seems to just never get enough attention.

Consider these needs (in no particular order).
  • Commenting moderation on the main blog
  • Post management on the main blog
  • Sharing of posts between blogs, quickly and easily
  • Better plugin management across sites
  • Better theme activation across sites
  • Incorporate domain mapping
  • Add sub-network features

Those are ideas I've seen tossed around for years. Yes, plugins are nice but getting these features into the core is important. Don't you agree?

If we don't start getting a better multisite core then we'll just be racing along an Internet superhighway in an old racing car. Sure, it was great back then ... but now? Not so much.

Comment moderation across a complete WordPress network would be nice. I thought there was a plugin for that feature.
