What's This Nutty Message All About?

R

Flightless Bird
Every time I log onto my Win 7 64bit machine, I get this message soon
after. I click to make it go away and don't seem to have any
problems. I don't understand what applications config file is causing
it. Anybody out there can explain?
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
See the end of this message for details on invoking
just-in-time (JIT) debugging instead of this dialog box.

************** JIT Debugging **************
To enable just-in-time (JIT) debugging, the .config file for this
application or computer (machine.config) must have the
jitDebugging value set in the system.windows.forms section.
The application must also be compiled with debugging
enabled.

For example:

<configuration>
<system.windows.forms jitDebugging="true" />
</configuration>

When JIT debugging is enabled, any unhandled exception
will be sent to the JIT debugger registered on the computer
rather than be handled by this dialog box.

I'd venture a guess that this line id's the offending
program...

file:///C:/Program%20Files%20(x86)/Dell%20DataSafe%
20Online/DataSafeOnline.exe

Had you had your resolution set to something equal to or
greater than 1722 x 1080 ? (If so, and a stab in the dark) is
that it saved that coordinate somewhere, and now that the
resolution is set to lower, that point doesn't exist, and the
poorly written Dell utility doesn't know how to deal with it.

Looks like it's Dell's Datasafe program falling over:

Thanks Dan. My resolution is set to the one recommended for my DELL
monitor, 1920 x 1080. I simply removed the Dell DataSafe Online
applications which I don't use and the error message went away. Now
why couldn't Dell Solution Services figure out what the problem was?

I have had to deal with the Dell "help" a few times and the only thing they
seemed real good for was teaching me how to do a lot of stuff I used to be
afraid to do or just did not want to learn.

BTW Gene. New Dell desk top got here Thursday. So the countdown begins. Its
now day 3 and so far Wife has not noticed it's a new computer. I have seen
her look at it kind of funny a couple times but so far no "hey, this is a
different computer".

You talked to Dell (?), or is that some type of trouble
shooting app they shove down the throats of every customer ?

I've found telephone support from almost any company is
abysmal......at best.

Ricky,
I have subscribed to the same marriage principal as you, "I'd rather beg for
forgiveness than ask for permission." It's worked for over 30 years and
she's still a good wife. =D

That's not what I've had. I've had some very poor experiences and I've
had some good experiences. In general, although the "tech" might be
bad at real troubleshooting, if my issue was a common one, they've
been very helpful.

Two recent good examples come to mind: Vonage VoIP service and
Samsung.

The biggest problem I have had is when places outsource it to India. Then
you have the fun of trying to understand someone who can "kind of" speak
English. If the person you are talking to actually knows how to help it's
not that bad. If they can not speak English and have no clue then it soon
gets very frustrating.
When I bought my wireless router I set it up and it of course worked but
as soon as I locked it down that was the end of it working. I tried for a
while then called and it was India, but the guy did know how to fix it and I
was soon on line.
A month or so later one of the Kids and Her O/H got Broadband and the same
wireless Router and asked me to help. I screwed up on theirs somehow too.
Called and again it was India but again the guy had me going in no time.
Now Dell has been a whole different thing. I don't know if it's luck of
the draw as to who you get, or if they just get a cut rate staff even by
India standards but it has rarely gone well the first time. It often left me
to give up after a while and seek out help on line myself.

That was me not Ricky on that one, but the idea is the same for me. <G>
A while back we were talking about my problem with a Gateway laptop made
by Acer and all the fun I was having after they fixed it and the license was
now no good. I mentioned that I had decided to replace an old Desktop and
after all the frustration with Acer was not going to buy another E-Machine
so ordered a Dell. Then said I was going to set it up while the Wife was not
home and see how long it took her to realize it was not the old XP machine
but a new W-7. Between it being a new OS and a much better monitor I thought
it would be great to see how long it took for her to notice. So far we are
up to day 4.

She's waiting for the credit card statement to arrive so she decide how
close to death she'll flame you ...

Alex,
Great to see another advocate of the philosophy that saves a marriage. =D
Hope you make it to many more days, that will give you time to practice your
begging skills. Best one I ever managed to get over was a new car for my
wife. Needless to say I didn't have to beg long on that one. =D

Thanks for the update.

Maybe I'll sneak a text message to your wife so she can surprise you by
noticing :)

Of course I won't do that (for one thing, I can't, obviously).

I notice in another post of yours in this thread that the countdown is
up to 4 days. Cool.

It's already paid for. Thing was only a little over $600.00 on a good sale.

LOL, yes with something like this it is of course a little easier though
since this is something she uses too.
