Comparing desk tops to servers is not copacetic.

If you compare Windows to Ubuntu, Ubuntu wins hands down, especially the
Windows you are using and the Outhouse Distress that you're using.

LOL. You could not think of something constructive to say ? You asked a question and
your sole purpose was to Troll.Linux has some good OS but Ubuntu is not one of them.
You know this and you still persist on beating a dead horse. Just as you know and
many that do not Microsoft also uses some Linux servers which are excellent servers.
But free is free and what you pay for is what you get.I asked you a question a few
times in the past to which you have not yet replied. I will ask again. Why is
Ubuntu free from Linux and what is the strategy behind this free OS and how does
Linux make money with Ubuntu after paying the programmers to create and Update them.
Come on Alias ,you are a big boy and you should be able to answer this

1. Ubuntu is not 'free from Linux' - it uses a Linux kernel.
2. One makes money with Ubuntu and several other 'free' Linux
distributions by selling support. If you visit the Ubuntu web site, you
will see that you can indeed purchase support if you so desire.

I would venture a guess that most Linux distros are relatively
equally secure, since they use nearly the same sub-systems.

What could be different, security-wise, are third-party
applications. These third-party applications actually include
the GNOME, XFCE, & KDE, etc desktop packages also.

I don't agree and it doesn't change the fact that Ubuntu is more secure
than any flavor of Windows.

I take it, then that you're trying to tell us that you believe win7 is
the most secure OS ever produced.

OK. But that is not what I asked. Re-read my question. As usual you keep avoiding
the answer for either you do not know it and do not want to make yourself with your
Ubuntu preaching look like a numnuts or you do not know the answer. I will leave
this thread with that. No need to reply. I am out of here

The question was answered...by selling support...unless you
meant your question literally.....

"Why is Ubuntu free from Linux and what is the strategy behind
this free OS and how does Linux make money with Ubuntu after
paying the programmers to create and Update them?"

To literally pick apart your question.....

Linux is not a company...Ubuntu doesn't come from a company
called Linux. It's from a company called Canonical.

And Linux doesn't make any money, Canonical, that puts out a
Linux distro named Ubuntu does....from selling support...like
most companies that put out distros.

Alias and Ray both answered your question interpreting it as
'how does Canonical make money on a free OS'.....which is how
almost everyone would interpret it. You are either really
confused, or purposely being a Frank....which is it ?

Giving away the os and paying for support is a business model for
failure as evidenced by the inability of any linux desktop distro to
garner any significant desktop following in over 20 yrs.

Fact is, W 7 is the most secure desktop OS from MS and for me.

As opposed to being a dan-o, or an alias or a ray?

No argument there - but that's not saying much.
