What is a registry file error

My NT 2000 system was running OK yesterday but this AM I get
"STOP: c0000218 {Registry File Failure}
The registry cannot load the hive (file):
\SystemRoot\System 32\Config\SOFTWARE
or its log or alternative.
It is corrupt, absent, or not writable."

How is this a Microsoft Office issue?

Dave,

I agree with Tom. This has absolutely nothing to do with Microsoft Office.

For this and other future questions you have, the fastest and most
accessible way to try and find information is Google. Surely you must have
heard of it.

Let me help you with that
