What if I do not like IE8?

B

Bob

Flightless Bird
Short version of question: How do I uninstall IE8 if I have problems with
it like other users have had in user reviews? How do I revert back to IE7?

I am using IE7. I want to upgrade to latest IE8. I read the user reviews
at Download.com and many users have no problems with IE8 and many late
posting users have dreadful problems with IE8. When trying general
software, if you do not like it, uninstall it. The unique problem with IE8
is the assumption that it cannot be uninstalled and revert back to IE7. Do
I dare install IE8? What if I do not like it or have problems with it? How
do I uninstall IE8 and revert back to IE7?

I just want one browser to use on my computer. Having and using multiple
browsers seems like too much work and too complex. How would I sync
bookmarks/favorites of different browsers? I just want one browser that
works properly. Firefox does not save in .htm and I do not know how to make
it display like IE and I would have to constantly sync bookmarks/favorites
to IE and other browsers. Way too much work.

Background info: I have a AMD 4400+ 64X2 4GB memory 320GB HD(way bigger than
I need) Acer computer (AM3100-U3201A) I purchased new February 2008 running
32-bit MS Vista Home Premium SP2 box. I use MS auto updates. I think it
has onboard shared memory for video and sound. My ISP is Comcast 12mbps
with Motorola SURFboard SB5101 Cable Modem direct to computer. No other
switches or routers or wireless or phone line or any other networking
hardware hooked up to this computer.

Thanks for the help!

Hi Bob,

You can remove IE8 in Add/Remove programs. I use FF for my browser, but
always kept IE6 as a guide for web design.

You CAN export your bookmarks in FF to an html file. Version 3 went to
using a SQLite database to store them which is supposed to be more
stable. If you install IE8 and FF is your default, IE will import your
FF bookmarks. Also, there is an add-on called IETab that will allow the
IE engine to run inside FF. Works great.

If you use xmarks, you can let it sync to all your common browsers on
different computers.

IE 8 is the same as IE7. If you were inclined to not like 8, you would not
have liked 7, and the issue would have been, how to revert to 6. Since you
made the change from 6 to 7 and survived, the change to 8 will not be a
problem at all.

There is also an add-on for Firefox to save and load MHT files. Google for
it.

Look in the Add/Remove Programs applet (and showing updates, too) in Control
Panel to see if there was an entry for "Windows Internet Explorer 8". For
Windows XP, you cannot uninstall IE8 if SP-3 was installed after the install
of IE8. You will need to first uninstall SP-3 before you can uninstall IE8.

Below are some articles found by searching Microsoft's huge support
knowledgebase at http://support.microsoft.com/:

How Do I Uninstall or Remove Internet Explorer 8?
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/957700

Windows Internet Explorer 8 does not appear in the "Currently Installed
Updates" list in Windows Vista or Windows Server 2008
