What happened to my desktop look?

The desktop fonts & features have become less complex. The lines that
make the characters appear to be one pixel thick. Check boxes
disappear against the background. The cubes in Tetris have lost the
3D and have become simple colored squares,

The Aero transparency still works.

This is a recent Dell 1464 running W7/64 (aero) from the factory
image.

Suggestions?

One cannot really help without more information about what specs you are
running, what you have been running and what if any errors you are showing!!

Well, it went away. As I said, I use an external monitor. By
accident I hit the function key that toggles between laptop display,
external or both. When I toggled back to external-only everything got
pretty again.
