The U.S. department of Justice has determined that the local sheriff's department "engaged in a pattern or practice of unconstitutional stops, searches, seizures and excessive force targeting African-Americans and Latinos."
Some might argue the department needs to spend even more time in select areas.
For example, the woman who cleans our school classrooms would probably be more concerned about the fact this week has been the bloodiest in our town's history. She was involved in a drive-by on Monday. Her son was shot in the leg. He was riding in the backseat while she was in the front.
The neighborhood school is 30 seconds from first responders - and that's one benefit of working there instead of the larger school 2 miles away. The constant noise of sirens, though, is distracting when the classroom doors are open
Anyway .... I hope they continue their presence before, during, and after school otherwise it may be time to look for another school.
