All internet suggestions regarding slipstreaming SP3 in preparation for doing
a clean computer install require use of Command Prompt. When I get to that
part and try to integrate an error message appears:
"WindowsXP-KB936929-SP3-x86-ENU.exe" is not recognized as an internal or
external comma, operable program or batch file.". Appreciate suggestions to
get around this "road block"

Have you tried AutoStreamer or nLite? These are tools to help with
creating a slipstreamed CD image

Lew, please post a link to the directions you used. (Perhaps it had a
typo.)

Another option is to use a program like Nlite:

I tried to download nlite and it won't let me. Says there is an error and
has to do with the referrer or virus/firewalls. I disabled the AV program
with the firewall, added a referrer patch to Firefox but still won't download
to my computer. How do you use Autostreamer?

There are a number of sites available with a Google and they essentilally all
the same. The exact path in Command Prompt is replicated on each site and I
have typed this in many times to be certain that backslashes and
forwardslasches and spacing is exactly as spelled out in detail on all of
them but the same error response comes back that is on my OP.

On the computer having the problem: Right-click on My Computer & select
Properties: What Windows version is
displayed in the resulting General tab (e.g., Windows XP Professional
Service Pack 1)?

*What* won't let you download the installation file?

Are you able to use another PC to download it?

If "WindowsXP-KB936929-SP3-x86-ENU.exe" is not recognized as an
executable file, first try to re-download it.

If you still have the same issue, the fact that you apparently also have
problems downloading nlite suggests that there is some underlying
problem with your computer. What is the malware status of your pc, and
how do you know?

In that case, I refer you to Lem's post. In the off-chance you can't see
it, here is the content:

I suggest follow the instructions in this article:

<http://www.theeldergeek.com/slipstreamed_xpsp3_cd_final.htm>

Whenever you have to type anything, you should just copy and paste to
avoid any errors when following the instructions. Also, you need to
follow the instructions literally to get the right results especially if
you are new to these things.

I was unable to find this at an official Microsoft site, but I *think*
the details for the stand-alone SP3 update are:

Filename: WindowsXP-KB936929-SP3-x86-ENU.exe
Size: 316MB (331,805,736 bytes)
CRC32: C411A9DA
MD5: BB25707C919DD835A9D9706B5725AF58
SHA-1: C81472F7EEEA2ECA421E116CD4C03E2300EBFDE4

First compare the size of the file you downloaded. If it matches, then
download a checksum checker: see, e.g.,
http://www.mydigitallife.info/2009/...le-checksum-integrity-verifier-kb841290-fciv/
and see if the file you have is correct.

I finally was able to slipstream SP3 with the technique described in Paul
Thurrott's SuperSite and using a previous slipstreamed SP2 disc made a few
years ago.
Thanks for everyone's input and help
